Frost May Get Michigan Post Malone Hearing Set Today-Eddie Brennan Draws Praise 4 Preston Burch will not confine his training activities next season entirely to the Howe Stable. . . As that establishment is not very large, the president of the American Trainers Association will take a few horses for other patrons. . . When Burch relinquishes - his present duties with the Walter M. Jeffords stable at the conclusion of the Bowie meeting, he will go to Columbia, S. C, to winter the Howe thoroughbreds. . . John T. Ward, Burchs youthful successor in the Jeffords position will remain at Belmont Park during the cold months. . . Clarence Buxton is planning a big welcome when Earl Sandc arrives at Columbia with the Maxwell Howard horses and the division he will train for John Hay Whitney. . . Even South Carolinas governor may participate. War Admiral probably will follow the same program at Hialeah Park this winter as he did before. . . His objective is the 0,000 Widener Challenge Cup, but he will be given a preliminary race by trainer George Conway . . . Frank Fitzgerald, newly elected governor of Michigan wont be surprising many persons if he appoints Joesph Frost as the states racing commission . . . Frost served in that position before under Fitzgerald and made many friends in the sport . . . The consolidation of the King Ranch stables left William Crump without horses . . . But the capable young horseman probably wont - be inactive very long . . . Second payment for the 1939 Classic is due tomorrow . . . Arlington Parks premier three-year-old event is expected to gross in the neighborhood of 0,000. Whitey Abels many friends rejoiced with him in the victory of Honey Cloud in the Ritchie Handicap . . . Abel is one of the numerous former joclteys who have made good as trainers . . . Eight Thirty will not be nominated for the Kentucky Derby but will be reserved for the Preakness instead . . . The good son of Pilate and Dinner Time is in winter quarters at the Erdenheim Farm in Pennsylvania of his owner, George D. Widener . . . Selection of May 6 for the Kentucky Derby running was expected . . . The Preakness probably will follow a week later, as it has done for a number of years . . . Marylands dates will not be arranged until the conclusion of the current season, but they are expected to follow the usual pattern with Bowie, Havre de Grace and Pimlico operating in that order in the spring, and Havre de Grace, Laurel, Pimlico and Bowie running that way in the fall. The Maryland State Racing Commission will hold its re-hearing of the Thomas Malone case at 10 oclock this morning . . . New evidence will be introduced on both sides . . . Eddie Brennan has drawn much praise for the steeplechases he has programmed at Pimlico during the current meeting . . . He had only a small number of jumpers to work with . . . The course is not as solid as it should be but ought to be in much better condition next spring when a more ambitious program of steeplechasing may be expected. Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt continues working on the problem for a more satisfac- tory lease for Pimlico, and if it is arranged he will go ahead with plans for the much needed reconstruction of the ancient plant . . .
