I FAIR GROUNDS TURF NOTES $ 3 F. W. Hannon recently registered the horses he brought here from Narragansett Park for A. Joyce. The horses are Brattle, Susie Lee, Tugboat and Lightly. L. G. Pierce was a belated arrival from Shreveport with three horses, St. Carl, Way-good Lad and Waring Witch. The horses L. L. Lycan is training for the eastern sportsmen, G. T. and R. C. Hanna, include the following: Mobcap, Fel-wyn, The Mauler, John Werring, Fast Express, Prunay, Devils Pace, Sun Way and Belleek. Sam Tracy registered the three horses he has stabled at Jefferson Park. They are Trip; Aulee and Fleures de Lite. Jim Thompson, a member of starter Johnny Morrisseys ground crew, began schooling horses at Jefferson Park Monday morning and will continue to conduct classes at the Shrewsbury track daily. G. H. Coyle, breeder of some of the countrys best nolo ponies at Cisco, Texas, has four thoroughbreds in quarters at Jefferson Park, the three-year-old Caath; the juveniles Porta Manes and Oil Boom, and a yearling chestnut colt by Livery My Goal. Jockey Andrew Lo Turco returned by plane from Chicago, where he appeared before the Illinois racing commission and reported to R. A. Coward, for whom he will ride during the Louisiana Jockey Club meeting. Miss Ethel Ament, owner of Old Dominion and Sir Michael, which are here, in charge of trainer Tommy Quinlan, was an arrival from New York and will remain here for a week, visiting her parents. Mrs. Ament is formerly of the Crescent City. Trainer T. Griffith brought the following three horses owned by E. Orin from Shreveport this morning: Coventry Cap, Miss Carter and Carter Girl. In addition to the horses that he is training for himself, Clyde Troutt is supervising the conditioning of two juveniles, Honey Seat, for J. D. Norris; and Mighty Miss, for Jake Lowenstein. Apprentice Don Grant Monday was granted a license to ride at the Fair Grounds. Trainers licenses were granted to F. W. Hannon and W. L. Hoag by the Fair Grounds stewards. A check of horses quartered at South Kennec reveals that thirty are stabled at the half-mile track situated about fifteen miles from the Fair Grounds. They are vanned back and forth for their engagements here. Max Eisner, owner and trainer, was called to Chicago because of the illness of his wife. Dan Hardy received word from Danny Jackson that the three-year-old Bobbrax, owned by J. S. Gosselin, Aurora, 111., hotel operator, would be shipped here from Bowie within the next few days. Hardy will campaign the horse this winter at the Fair Grounds. The following jockeys were also granted licenses: A. Gaither, H. Krovitz, S. H. La Fitte, F. Butler, R. Camp, E. Le Blanc. B. Harrison was an arrival from Chicago and took charge of the two horses that have been here for several weeks, namely, Inscolt and Rockrim. D. C. Burnett, resident manager of Aurora and general manager of Fairmount Park, both in Illinois, returned from Chicago, where he attended a meeting of the Illinois Racing Commission, at which the application for dates in 1939 was discussed. Burnett stated that members of the commission deferred the announcement of the 1939 dates until later in the month. Under the law, announcement of the dates must be made by the commission between November 15 and December 1. i 1 . . . 1 1 n - -
