SANTA ANITA HORSE COLONY Preliminary Check Reveals About Three Hundred Horses Stabled on Grounds at Present Time. ARCADIA, Calif., Nov. 29. A preliminary check of the stables at Santa Anita Park reveals that there are almost three hundred horses now being trained and prepared for the opening of the season on December 31. The expected arrival this week and the first of next week of the large strings of A. G. Vanderbilt, H. Guy Bedwell, A. Pelleteri, possibly Charles S. Howard and others with reservations, who have been racing in Maryland, will likely add another hundred and fifty. There will be later shipments from the East and South, and the barns will be filled with the .wholesale move from Tanforan at the close there. Some of those now on the grounds, with the number of horses, are: William E. Boeing, twenty-eight; Lawrence Barker, four; A. A. Baroni, seven; Dave Butler, six; Joe E. Brown, two; A. C. T. Stock Farm, twenty; Bing Crosby, six; Circle M Ranch, twelve; J. C. Ellis, fourteen; F. A. Carreaud, seven; Mrs. E. Denemark, twenty-one; J. J. Dolan, four; E. E. Fogelson, eight; W. J. "Buddy" Hirsch, six; C. J. Gamble, four; Fred Turner, Jr., six; Louis B. Mayer, six; Le Mar Stock Farm, eighteen; G. H. Emick, seven; J. H. Whitney, five; Greentree Stable, three; Man-hassett Stable, one; A. Warner, four; E. G. Haskell, two; L. T. Whitehill, three; J. T. and W. W. Taylor, thirteen; Nelson A. Howard, three; J. Grossman, six; L. C. Young, four; Iron Mountain Stable, nine; S. J. Nor-ris, two, and William B. Simpson, four. Most of the top horses have just been galloping, making use of the well-cushioned training track. They have been going slow with Flying Scot, War Minstrel, Dauber, Porters Mite, Grim Reaper, Piccolo, Gosum, Cascabelito and some of the others.. The Louis B. Mayer headliners Magic Hour, Perifox, Brooklyn, Ossabaw, Sweet Patrice and Joy Boy have been getting in their licks on a rope, going around a circle. Some of the trainers are starting to cut loose on the main mile track. A. A. Baroni with Specify and his string, Darrell Cannon with the A.. C. T. Stock Farm outfit of Indian Broom, Whichcee and Fire Marshall, W. W. Taylor with Valley Lass, are going in for faster conditioning.
