STRIKE DEADLOCK UNBROKEN The Handlers Strike, tying up livestock trade in the citys Union Stock Yards, moved into its ninth day today, with the Union-Management deadlock apparently unbroken. Federal conciliators, after a second meeting with the two sides, tsaid, however, that some progress had been made and the chances for an early settlement were fairly good. Van A. Bittner, national vice chairman of the CIO, Vwith which the striking union is affiliated, promised to send the men back to work if the company would guarantee to sign an agreement. As an alternative, he threatened to declare a general country-wide strike against Armour and Company, packers, on the grounds that the firm is principal stockholders in the yards company. An announced plan by A. F. L. union handlers to return to their jobs was abandoned yesterday after only twenty-four showed up to go through the picket lines. As a result, the yards remained closed and receipts totalled only a little more than 9,000, all direct to the packers.
