1 FAIR GROUNDS TURF NOTES s $ Jockey George Miller and Hank Gower departed for Charles Town, W. Va., and will swing into action at that point when the meeting gets under way on December 1. Ken Scott, for the account of E. C. Jeffers and W. C. Jenkins, registered Bull Market and Count Cary with the Louisiana Jockey Club racing secretary. The two-year-old filly Joji T., which Norman "Butsey" Hernandez purchased from Mrs. H. Torriente for a private consideration, was sold to Leo Beyda at the Fair Grounds. Terms of the transaction were not divulged. A shipment of horses is due from Maryland the latter part of the week, according to word received at the Louisiana Jockey Club by racing secretary R. A. Leigh. The consignment includes several stables that were campaigned at Bowie. Louis Keller, local turfman, will submit to an operation at the Marine Hospital here within the next few days and, during his absence, T. R. Marullo will look after the horses Bonnie Howard and Dan Skilling. After having been away from the races for a year and a half, F. D. "Highpockets" Mcj Elroy has brought the mares Wicces and Autumn Leaves back to the races. Both proved failures as brood mares at McElroys farm, near Houston, Texas. Jockey B. Hacker, whose apprenticeship expires Wednesday, was an arrival from Maryland and will ride free lance during the remainder of the Fair Grounds meeting. Bob Warren will book the boys engagements. Joe M. Brooks was an arrival from his home in New Iberia, La., and assumed charge of the stable of horses that has been quartered at Jefferson Park for the past few weeks. Jockey Dunice Dubois, who has been troubled with a stomach ailment for which he underwent treatment at Hotel Dieu, here, is vacationing with relatives in Kaplan, La. The Purchase of Bold Lover from Mrs. E. Or os by Mrs. E. Haughton was announced at the Fair Grounds, and the training of the racer will be directed by Ed Haughton in the future. Jack Hennessey, member of G. R. "Buddy" Wingf ields ground crew, was a visitor at the Louisiana Jockey Clubs course. He will go to Miami, Fla., in a few days to await the opening of Tropical Park. Jockey T. P. Martin and Paul Ryan packed their tack and departed for Miami, Fla., where they will sport silks during the winter racing season at Tropical and Hialeah Parks. Books for the Oriental Park meeting at Havana, Cuba, were distributed by Robert P. McAuliffe at the Fair Grounds, and Mc-Auliffe is making arrangements for the shipment of a number of thoroughbreds to the island course within the next week. The latest additions to starter John Mou risseys schooling list include Smiling Prince and Manhunt. The latter was the winner of the seventh race Monday after causing considerable delay at the post. A. L. Hunt was an arrival from Shreve-port, La., with the horses Little Mistake and Whisk Cole and found stabling accommodations outside the grounds. Ed Drillon expects to add Pomposo to the band that he has stabled at the Fair Grounds course shortly. At present Pomposo is at Tanforan and will be shipped here for racing. Word was received from Jefferson Park of the death of the five-year-old Peerless Pal, which was the property of the Louisiana turfman Joe M. Brooks. The racer had been ailing for several days before his demise. Robert P. McAuliffe is due in New Orleans Tuesday morning from Florida for the purpose of soliciting horses for the Oriental Park meeting at Havana, Cuba, this winter.
