ACCUSED WOMAN BREAKS DOWN WHITE PLAINS, N. Y., Nov. 29. So near collapse that she had to be supported by court attendants, Mrs. May Burckhalter, accuse of aiding her hu-jand, Eugene, to commit suicide, waived examination today and was held for the grand jury. Mrs. Burckhalter is charged with first degree manslaughter. Bail of 0,000 was continued. Asked if she had been able to raise bail, she replied wearily: "I think that it is quite impossible." The forty-four-year-old widows mother, Mrs. Mary Hite, was said to be on her way to her daughter from California, but she was not in court. Assistant District Attorney Gallagher said that Mrs. Hite would not be permitted to see Mrs. Burckhalter in jail. Melvin Kittell, friend of Mrs. Burckhalter, is held in ,000 bail as a material witness. He was found in the Burckhalter home at Hastings-on-Hudson the day after Burckhalter died, apparently from carbon Monoxide gas in an automobile in his garage.
