1 SANTA ANITA TURF NOTES $ t Bill Cunningham, head docker for the Los Angeles Turf Club, is back on the job. Bill is considered one of the most experienced men in his line of work in the United States. He keeps an intricate and complete identification file of all horses in training in the country. He already has four members of his staff standing guard from dawn on in the main stand, their field glasses combing the big oval for morning workouts. Cunningham also has either himself or one of his dockers on the station siding at Santa Anita to meet every incoming train. These men thus list and identify for future records each horse. Every marking and mannerism of a horse is recorded general size and conformation, general color, head markings, sock markings, off-color points, manner of moving, etc. Top jockeys will ride this winter at Santa Anita. Bobby Dotter, a favorite here two seasons ago, will have the leg up on the horses trained by Howard Oots, with such as the great mare Marica in the string. "Sonny" Workman will be back in the Whitney irons. Nick Wall is to ride for Xalapa Farm. Al Shelhamer is already here galloping the Bedwell horses, and Charley Cbr-bett will ride for Baroni. George Woolf will ride for the Mayer stable, and "Red" Pollard for C. S. Howard if his leg mends. Basil James is the Boeing booter. Johnny Long-den and Johnny Adams will be seen in silks. Four head arrived from Dallas, Texas, to join the stable of E. E. Fogelson, trained by "Stubby" Kanatzer. The shipment was headed by the sensational two-year-old gray filly Smart Crack. This one won six of her last seven starts and was only beaten a short nose in the seventh. The other horses are Majority Vote, Coup dOr and a non-starter two-year-old filly by Diavolo, the name of which "Stubby" does not as yet know.
