TEST FOR TWO-YEAR-OLDS Fair Grounds Schedules Pass Christian Handicap for Next Saturday Biloxi Winner Nominee. NEW ORLEANS, La., Dec. 12. New Orleans racing fans will get some idea of the distance-running qualities of the two-year-olds here in the Pass Christian Handicap at the Fair Grounds next Saturday. The Pass Christian is to be contested over a mile and seventy yards and, while this race was declared off last year for want of sufficient entries, indications are that it will attract a representative field here this week-end. The race is endowed with a ,500 purse, and nominations for it close on Thursday. The first handicap here for juveniles resulted in a handy victory for Mrs. C. C. Winters Patrol Scout, and he is considered a certain starter in the Pass Christian. The manner in which he took the six furlongs Biloxi Handicap, run early this month, suggested that the son of The Scout will fancy the distance of Saturdays contest. The Biloxi marked the undoing of Joe W. Browns Michigan Flyer, which ran second after having scored two previous victories here this winter. This Louisiana-bred youngster is expected to come back on Saturday in quest of lost prestige. Still another two-year-old which has shown an aptitude for, coming from behind in sprint races is Miss Ruth Sidells Hope Diamond, and she, too, probably will be named for Saturdays special. Then there is Jake Lowen-steins Mighty Miss, winner of the first start of her career several days ago, and Mills-dale Stables Ellie, which scored a one-sided victory over the mile and seventy yards distance here on Friday. Ellie performed against a cheap band of two-year-olds, but she won in such impressive fashion that her connections probably will name her for the Pass Christian. Other two-year-olds here which at one time or another have shown they hold their own in more select company are Leo Beydas Joji T., "Butsey" Hernandez Bright and Roidef, Harold Nellors Linter, Old Fox Stablest Torch Stick, Mrs. Charles Graysons Linger Awhile, E. E. Chanocks Street Arab, Miss Sherry Balleras Sherry B., and Mrs. Vera Wyses High Place. It is likely that the running of the Pass Christian will produce an outstanding local candidate or two for the Louisiana Derby of next spring, and it promises to command more than passing attention from New Orleans fans.
