U. S. FLEET IN MANEUVERS OFF THE COAST OF MEXICO LOS ANGELES, Calif., May 10.— Indicating the maneuvers of the United States fleet off the coast of Mexico and Southern California are more extensive than first reports hinted, information was received at Los Angeles today that the "fleet will not return to its San Diego and San Pedro bases until Friday. Approximately 100 fighting ships, most of which were returning from Atlantic maneuvers, were originally scheduled to arrive at their bases tomorrow. Last night, Commander in Chief Claude C. Bloch radioed from his flagship, U. S. S. Pennsylvania: "San Diego base units expected to enter early morning, May 12; San Pedro, Long Beach units forenoon May 12." The delay in home port entry led officers ashore to surmise that the fleet had been split somewhere off the coasts of Mexico and Southern California and that one force was attacking, the other defending the western hemisphere. The "battle" was being fought to test certain lessons gleaned from the fleets intensive war games held recently in the Caribbean Sea.. j
