THIRD VICTORY FOR GANNET Proves Best of Jamaica Juveniles in Winning Youthful Stakes. Triumphs Over Great Albert and Maetran— Bonnie Nash Is Saddle Star of Day. NEW YORK, . N. Y., May 10.— Ben F. Whitakers Gannet proved himself best of the juveniles that were raced at the Jamaica season of the Metropolitan Jockey Club when he won his third race of the meeting today. It was the Youthful Stakes, closing feature of the first New York meeting and the son of Okapi and Willet added ,300 to his earnings, when he led home Great Albert, from the Paragon Stables, with Dewitt Pages Maetran beating Nelson I. Asiels Curliqueue for third. , The only other starter was Dungeon, from the Manhasset Stable, and he was at all times a bad last. For the final day of the Jamaica meeting a goodly crowd was out and the sport furnished was excellent, though the day opened with t- e overthrow of two choices. The victory of Gannet gave the lightweight apprentice Ronnie Nash a riding double, he having scored with Updo in an earlier race for juveniles. Gannet was so much best in the Youthful that he dominated all the running. Dungeon beat him away from the stalls, but at once dropped back badly and Gannet, on the rail, went into the pace. As the Whit-aker colt took command, Nash took a slight hold of his head and he was just clear of Curliqueue, with Great Albert following in third place. In that early racing Renick had the Pairbypair colt under wraps as he went along in tnird place. BY LENGTH MARGIN. This, order was unchanged as the small field rounded from the back stretch, but when the home lane was reached, Curliqueue was beginning to shorten stride and Great Albert moved up rapidly on the inside. He continued to close all the way home, but : Gannet had something left as he crossed the line the winner by a length. This final bid of Great Albert carried him four lengths be- j fore Maetra ., which had finished well to run down the tiring Curliqueue. The second was another unhappy race for the players when William Goetz Count Edward was winner with Paul B. Codds Devils Mate second and George D. Wideners High- j scope, the favorite, could only save third from Fooled, the second choice. Count Ed- ward was an 8-to-l shot and was ridden by Wayne Wright. j Birthday, from the Greentree Stable, ] dropped down from 122 to 114 pounds, ran a : j j j ] a an improved race in the Tryster Purse, a gallop of a mile and a sixteenth, and was winner over Joseph Pepps Harvesting, which readily took the measure of Jack Healeys False Point, the slight favorite over the winner. Jack McPherson saddled the winner of the sixth race when he sent out Muckraker from the Falaise Stable. The roan son of Teddy won with considerable to spare over Calendquest, which, coupled with Broad Tail, was the choice. Third went to Brown Light. He was beaten a short nose for the place. Muckraker went to the post at 7 to 1 and was ridden by Johnny Lorigden.
