BRIDGES TESTIMONY ALLOWED WASHINGTON, D. C, May 10.— The House Merchant Marine Committee today, on a voice vote, allowed Harry Bridges, West Coast CIO maritime leader, to testify at a hearing after Representative Keefe, Republican, Wisconsin, protested on the ground that Bridges is not a citizen. The Australian-born Bridges appeared with other West Coast maritime union leaders urging enactment of a bill to require that the United States Maritime Commission use union hiring halls in hiring seamen for four ships which it will operate. "I object to Bridges testifying, because he is not a citizen," said Keefe. "Congress in at least two measures this Season has indicated that it w 1 not take advice or dictation from men not American citizens."
