Whirlaway Must Carry 129 in Suburban Alsab Rated Tops On Weight Scole Preakness Winner Gets 112 Market Wise, Attention, Mioland Each Assigned 124 ELMONT, L. I., N. Y., May 20. Handi-capper John B. Campbell rates the Preakness Stakes victor, Alsab, the outstanding performer of any division in the country in his assignments for the 0,000 added Suburban Handicap, mile and a quarter Memorial Day attraction at Belmont Park. The favorite for Saturdays Withers is assigned 112 pounds, four above scale, while the Calumet Farms Whirlaway, hero of the dramatic Dixie Handicap recently . at Pimlico is allocated 129 pounds, or two above the scale. Thus, on this rather arbitrary "scale of weights for age basis," Alsab is required to give Whirlaway two pounds. The three-year-old and handicap leader, by the way, headed Campbells Experimental Handicap in their respective years. The comparison, seemingly, is only of academic interest. Whirlaway is pointing for the 0,000 Suburban and, in fact, looms as the public favorite, while Alsab is to be reserved for the Belmont Stakes following his engagement in the Withers mile on Saturday. The Suburbans box office lure accrues mainly from the fact that it will bring Whirlaway into competition against Mioland, Attention and Challedon. The great quartet finished in "blanket formation" in a particularly thrilling Dixie stretch battle. War Relic Our pf Training Whirlaway, under 129, is required to give five pounds apiece to Mioland and the Metropolitan winner; Attention, seven to Challedon. Market Wise, who is also a probable starter, defeated Whirlaway in new American record time for two miles in The Jockey Club Gold Cup last fall and is rated with on par with Mioland and Attention under 124. War Relic is out of training, and Fene-lon is awaiting the Spa, so that their assignments of 122 each are meaningless. Under 129, Whirlaway will be essaying to win the Suburban, which is one of Americas most famous handicaps while carrying the highest impost of any winner since 1933, when the late, great Equipoise coasted home in 2:02 under 132 pounds. There are no penalties in the Suburban, while the complete list of eligibles and their respective weights is as follows: Horse. Wt. Horse. Wt.
