New England News and Notes NARRAGANSETT PARK. Pawtucket. R. I.. April 13. O. L. Foster, trainer of the Mrs. R. A. Smith stable, announced that Through Bound will not be active for stud duty until next season. Through Bound, a four-year-old son of Out Bound and Informal, was injured in a training mishap at Oak-lawn Park. The colt was given considerable care after the accident and saved for breeding purposes. Herb Trent has been engaged to ride Harry Barnetts Rangoon in the Spring Handicap on Saturday. Barnett had planned to start Bridleour as a running mate, but the fast-breaking filly was slightly injured in the car en route from Florida and will not meet the engagement. Clarifying Narragansett *s announcement that members of the HBPA are sitting in with the stewards to scan applications for trainers licenses, the decision to grant or deny licenses remains solely the stewards responsibility. The HBPA members act only in an advisory capacity. Anita Page, former stage and screen star, will race eight horses at the spring meeting under the care of trainer W. F. Al-varado. The latter has brought along the promising apprentice Willie Young to handle most of the riding assignments. Young hails from Atlantic City. "Skeeter" Shapoff. son of the well-known trainer. Mose Shapoff. will be married early next week to Miss Adeline Pritsker. a Providence girl. The ceremony will take place in Providence. Skeeter served 11 months with the Army prior to receiving a medical discharge. Claude Hunt, who trained for the Lookout Stock Farm at the Hot Springs meeting, resigned his position when the owners decided to move the stable west. Hunt prefers the eastern circuits and was at Gansett this morning checking over some new propositions. Victor Bovine, contract rider for C. F. Wagner, is a protege of Willie Ratner, well-known Newark. N. J., sportswriter. Ratner Is a cousin of Willie Ratner, great middleweight boxer of two decades ago. Dave Harrison has added the five-year-old plater, Dans Choice, to his string. The gelding belongs to R. Daniels, who made the purchase from Albert Sabath at Tropical Park. James Conroy is again in charge of the Pinkerton staff at Narragansett. Fred Grunwald and Chester Bateman are handling the horse identification detail at the Rhode Island course. Arthur Gaignards Michigan Lady, popular plater here a few seasons back, dropped her first foal Tuesday at Gaignards Seekonk Farm, a stones throw from Narragansett. Pine Tree Farms Rocky Margot, a frequent winner on the New England circuit, dropped a filly foal recently at Lexington, Ky. Chance Shot is the sire. William Causey, trainer of a large public stable, announced that he may take up J several more horses for campaigning on the New England circuit. Sid Trenchard checked in this morning with five head from New Orleans. Peace Fleet and Fritz, previous winners here, are among the string. "Cy" Miller, who rubs pounds off the riders in the jockeys room, has all his conditioning apparatus set up. Charlie McDonough arrived from his winter quarters at Laurel, Md., with Tee Midge. Valdina Rocket and Lems Baby. John Swisher, who looks after the Jockeys Guild, was on hand for the inaugural-day sport and then left for Pimlico.
