Lexington Arrivals Complete Picture For Keeneland Inaugural at Churchill Headley Declares Askmenow4 Out of Phoenix Handicap, Tomorrows Opening Stake LOUISVILLE, Ky., April 13.— The arrival of some 50 horses from Lexington about completed the number of thoroughbreds coming from that point for the Keeneland-at-Churchill Downs meeting, which opens at the historic home of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday. Shipments today included 18 horses Howard Wells trains for David Straus and various owners, and 12 head the property of Thomas B. Cromwell. Dr. J. C. Bras-well and Garrett Watts, in charge of Emerson Davids. A drop in temperature following the severe rains left the Downs track in a j heavy condition and consequently no Derby jeligibles were called upon for ambitious | moves. Mandell Goffs Skytracer. runner -iup to Stir Up in the Flamingo Stakes, and |Erlanger Stables Shut Up, who finished [third in the Arkansas Derby, were the only Derby candidates to work. Skytracer was clocked six furlongs in 1:20. and Shut Ups i time for a half mile was :57. Meanwhile the arrival of Lawrence Bo-genschutz. Clifford Hufnagel and George iMolesworth completed Keenelands official j family. Bogenschutz arrived with his right ; arm in a sling, having suffered a fractured j wrist in a fall at his Cincinnati home. JMolesworth came from his home at Lone-Isome Pine, Va., while Hufnagel came from JRosedale, Ky. j Register 500 Horses Some 500 of the 1,100 horses quartered | at the two Louisville tracks are registered [ i | with secretary Fred Burton, and this impor-jtant detail will be completed by tomorrow ; night. Burton was notified by owner Hal ■ Price Headley to declare Askmenow from the Phoenix and Ben Ali Handicaps. The daughter of Menow went amiss and will be sent to Beaumont Farm, where later she will be bred to Eight Thirty. While the secretarys office was the scene of much activity, it did not compare with the crowd in the general offices, where reserved seats and boxes are being issued by an overtaxed crew. Russell Sweeney, resident-manager, has been at his desk 18 hours daily for the past 10 weeks, and his assistants are doing nearly as well. All indications are that the boxes, as well as reserved seats, will be sold long before the opening of the Churchill Downs regular meeting, which will be preceded by Keenelands seven-day session and six days of War Relief. Jockeys Mike Caffarella. Ralph Eccard and apprentices William Bailey and Joe Berz are the latest arrivals, and some 60 jockeys and apprentices are expected to be ready to accept mounts on opening day.
