McKnight was taken ill soon after his arrival in Boston. Francis Maschek, veteran jockey, has been ordered to report for examination and faces the possibility of being inducted into the service. Morris Wexler, of Cleveland, Ohio, who is racing a string here, will arrive with a party of friends for a short stay at Suffolk Downs. Duncan MacEachern, an East Boston boy who rode to races before the war, then served in the Pacific area, resumes his riding career aboard Brosnan and Halleys Don Miller in the fifth race yesterday. Herb Fisher, of Kentucky Derby fame, now training for Irving Gushen, has named his newly born son Robert Alan Fisher. The former rider is a great booster of the R. A. F., hence his sons name and initials. Racing secretary John Turner has a list of 235 eligibles for Class D allowance races on the grounds. James F. Plett reports that apprentice Joseph Skinner is absent without leave from his employ and requests that other horsemen not harbor the boy. Adolph Mogavero, local sportsman, who has confined his activities to show horses in the past, has the three-year-old French Queen ready for racing here. She has been training at the John White farm near Whitinsville, Mass. Trainer Herb Fisher, who conditions the string of Irvin Gushen, announced the arrival from New York of three horses purchased by his employer, Copperman, Resolute II. and Wemite. Kiss, dam of Gabe Paul, is a full sister to Case Ace, sire of Pavot, juvenile champion of two years ago. Gabe Paul has earned 6,450 this year, winning a division of the Governors Handicap at Narragansett and the Tomasello Memorial here, both 0,000 events. The consistent five-year-old son of Sickle has been in the money in his last seven starts, winning four. Trainer Howard Hoffman has recovered sufficiently from his recent illness to resume his duties as conditioner of the extensive string of T. C. Melrose. J. P. Watts, stepson of Hoffman, retains his trainers license and will saddle the horses until his dad has fully recovered. Trainer E. E. Miles reported that he had received the three -year-old filly, Marled, from Dave Lederer. He also stated that his charge, West Fleet, will make his next start in the 0,000 Bunker Hill Handicap here on June 17. The Whizzaway gelding has also been named for the 0,000 added Massachusetts Handicap on July 4. Ex-jockey L. Whiting, now training the Mt. Desert Stable and his own horses, was very successful during the first week at Suffolk Downs. He sent four horses to the post and three of them won, the fourth finished third. Among the owners of stables racing here who have arrived for brief visits, are R. C. Hodge and Mr. and Mrs. Pat OConnor of Washington, D. C. Hodge has 10 head here in charge of trainer Bill Renn, while the OConnor horses are conditioned by Lyman "Sport" Haymaker. A wire was also received from Sam Sidell of Chicago, who has a string of horses here in charge of Reggie Cornell, that he is on his way from Miami. Tom Shehan, recent addition to the official family here, journeyed to New York over the week-end to attend the finals of the Goodall Round Robin Tournament. Despite the fact the sport was postponed due to inclement weather, Shehan made good use of his trip by visiting with Fred Corcoran, P.G.A. tournament bureau manager. In accepting his new position as placing judge, Shehan was forced to make a hurried departure from New York, where he was handling the publicity for the golf tournament.
