Expect Monmouth Park ; To Postpone Opening Rains Again Retard Construction Work; To Issue Statement Today OCEANPORT, N. J., June 4.— The Monmouth Park Jockey Club continues to operate against time and the elements in an effort to open its inaugural meeting as planned next Monday. Completition of the ,000,000 plant has been delayed by the protracted spell of rainy weather and other hampering factors. Far beyond the construction schedule today it appeared extremely doubtful whether the flags will be flying atop even an uncompleted structure six days hence. An official announcement will be made tomorrow when Amory L. Haskell, president; Edward J. Brennan, general manager, and Philip Iselin, treasurer, [ will confer. It is generally believed that they will accept the inevitable and postpone the opening. Today the management encountered another . setback. A drizzling, soaking rain set in about 6 A.M. and continued until 2:30 J P.M. The steel workers walked off the job, | the fourth consecutive day that they were unable to work. At the peak period of j employment about 800 men were on the j job. Recently not more than 200 were able to work because of weather conditions. At present Monmouth Park is about 60 I per cent completed. It is estimated that t with 10 days of favorable weather it would j be 85 per cent complete. It was unofficia-ly . reported today if a postponement is 5 ordered tomorrow, the opening will be set t back to June 15. This would enable the s management to have the clubhouse in readiness, again if weather permits. The New Jersey State Racing Commission will inspect the plant on the Thursday, but it was said that its visit will not affect the officials decision tomorrow on the postponement question.
