QUICK CHANCE was slow to settle in his stride, was in close quarters shortly after the break, then was eased to the outside for the final drive and got up in the closing strides. GOLDEN ARROW, a prominent factor from the beginning, held on well. DIVINO made a determined bid in the late stages, but hung. FAIRANFIT showed a good effort. NARCISSUS raced well. PORTAL swerved in the running. COUNT JL hung nearing the finish. UNCLE CECIL could not keep up. CHARLES CITY quit badly. Scratched— Descartes. 116. Overweight— Bari, 4 pounds. The latter forced the early pace, moved into command rounding to the stretch turn and had no mishap. SHUSH showed a good effort all the way. PORTSEL began slowly and finished fast.
