Sir Victor Sassoons Tregor Captures Rosebery at Epsom EPSOM, England, June 4 Reuters. — Bigger Crowds than even in the boom years before the war attended todays opening of the four-day Derby meeting, although there was really no big event on the program. Judging by todays attendance, police and railway officials are going to have a tough time dealing with the Derby day crowd tomorrow. Sir Victor Sassoon won the Rosebery Memorial Handicap, run over two and one-quarter miles, with Tregor, son of the Irish Derby winner, Phideas. Ridden by Tommy Weston, who rides Happy Knight tomorrow, Tregor led every step of the running. Second was Esquimalt, who had been leading Edward Tudor in his work. Maharajah Gaekwar of Baroda won the Woodcote stakes, first six-furlong race of the year for two-year-olds, with Bhishma, a chestnut son of Stardust. The going was good today but if the present rain continues, it will become sufficiently heavy to test the stamina of the Derby candidates-tomorrow.
