Daily Trouble Vies With Sigma Kappa Limit Fields Seek Split Lincolnwood Old Kentuck Faces Diderod, Merrymarch in Late Half Of Sprint at Hawthorne HAWTHORNE, Cicero, 111., June 4. — David Straus Daily Trouble, who finished second to Fighting Don in the fastest six and one-half furlongs race of the meeting last week, will engage a field of clever sprinters in the first division of the Lincolnwood Purse here tomorrow when an interesting program of the usual eight races will be offered. An eligible for Saturdays mile and one-quarter Lincoln Handicap, the rough and ready eight-year-old gelding who participated in 13 races last year and earned a total of 7,075, however, is not regarded as a starter on tomorrows dash of six and one-half furlongs, for he is first on the also eligible list and there must be at least one declaration before he becomes eligible to compete. On the strength of his smart race in back of Fighting Don, Daily Trouble would be a top-heavy favorite for the dash. While he was unable to seriously threaten the flying Donovan Flash, it was a mighty Impressive effort. He was making his first start since last October and the fact that he finished only three lengths in back of a crack sprinter who ran the distance in 1:18 stamps him as a threat against any mans horse — at any distance. Sigma Kappa Forced Pace in Steger Another classy sprinter in the capacity field is B. J. Bax Sigma Kappa, a five-year-old mare who forced a strong pace in the Steger Handicap before bowing to Walkie Talkie, Bull Play and Historian. While finishing fourth in the stakes, she was only two lengths in back of the leaders and in the late stages she was seriously impeded. The mare has been showing steady improvement since returning to competition this year at Churchill Downs. She has drawn number one post position for the test and this will be to her advantage if she shows her usual smart early speed. Other contenders in the first division of the Lincolnwood will be Final Glory, Sandstorm, Valdina Date, while completing the field are Rosemere Chief, Royal Risk, Chesty, Cerberus, Cherriko, Sassy Patricia, Maejames, K. Dorko, Unchallenged, Leos Brandy, Iron City and Bosage. While the second division of the Lincoln-! wood lacks some of the class of the first half, a maximum band of shifty sprinters should put up a warm fight for top prize. Old Kentuck, another eligible for Satur-; days Lincoln Handicap, may get his final tune-up in this race. The five-year-old has shown considerable class since he first came to the racing wars. In 1944 he was second to Twilight Tear in the Classic, Arlington Park fixture run at Washington Park. Last season he was raced sparingly, but showed several bang-up performances in back of top competition. Last Thursday the Walmac colorbearer made his first start of the season in a race won by Santa Claus. While he failed to finish in the money, he was the victim of considerable interference and probably would have finished much closer but for the mishaps. He looms as one of the choices against the field. His main contention is likely to come from Merrymarch, Diderod, Dockie and American Eagle, , : j 1 ; ; 1 1 5 • 1 r v r r
