Col. Matt Winn, who hopes eventually to develop the two-year-old fixture into one of the outstanding classics for young horses, also announced that the opening nominations for the 1947 renewal of the event will close on the same date, June 15. He estimates that the value of next years race will be 0,000. The race is scheduled at a mile and will be run during the fall meeting at the Downs plant. Many of the greatest horses of the last 30 years have participated in the juvenile test, among them being Tryster, Grey Lag, Wise Counsellor, Mad Play, Canter, Reigh Count, Mata Hari, Nellie Flag, and others. The 1930 renewal of the race found the great horses, Twenty Grand and Equipoise, running the mile in 1:36 as they battled nose and nose throughout the running, with the former, who later won the Ken- tucky Derby, gaining the nod at the end. It was one of the fastest races for two-year-olds ever recorded.
