Long Branch Meet Opens Today at Dufferin Park DUFFERIN PARK, Toronto, Ont., June 4. — The first change of scenery in the local racing season comes tomorrow, when the seven-day spring meeting of the Long Branch Jockey Club opens at Dufferin Park. Although a number of leading racing establishments left these parts at the close of the Thorncliffe meeting, material to furnish the various events down for decision at the Long Branch session is plentiful. Top offering of the seven-day period is the eighth running of the ,000 added Orpen Handicap set for decision on Saturday, and it will bring together the best three- and four-year-old Canadian-breds in training The Orpen is a run of a mile and a sixteenth, and its unique purse distribution adds much interest to the affair. Other events slated for renewal besides the seven furlongs of the Lake Shore Handicap, which occupies the stellar position on the opening card, are the Hillcrest Purse, Clifton Handicap, Kenilworth Handicap, Etobicoke Purse, Queens Park Purse, and the Owen Sound and Long Branch Handicaps, which will be contested on the closing day of the meeting.
