Eleven Three-Year-Olds Go in Peter Pan Purse Delhannah May Rule Favorite Under Impost of 105 Pounds CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky. May 13. — The Peter Pan Purse, a six-furlong sprint for three-year-olds, is to headline the program arranged for presentation tomorrow at this South Louisville racing grounds. The feature attracted 11 entrants from the age division and the probable starting band appears evenly matched. William A. Delaneys Delhannah, who has shown decided improvement in her recent starts, may go postward favorite in the Peter Pan, and she is favorably weighted under a feathery 105 pounds. Apprentice James Combest, one of the better lightweight riders, is to have the mount on Delhannah, who is trained by the veteran turfman, Thomas B. Young. Mrs. Lottie Wolfs representative in the principal offering is Mayram, who won over a fair field here in the High Cloud Purse. Delhannah was defeated in the same six-furlong event, but she suffered some bad racing luck, and the return engagement between the Delaney filly and Mayram should prove interesting. L. C. Yates Bolo Shellie, who displayed high speed in the High Cloud for the initial half mile of that dash, probably will improve off that race, and she is rated dangerous under her 110-pound burden. Bolo Shellie held on well to the final furlong in her last appearance under silks and then faltered, finishing fourth to Mayram, Margaret and My Sister. Thomas Piatts homebred Evident, a son of Transmute and Plain View, is partial to an "off" track, and he may be right in the thick of contention during the Peter Pan running. Evident ran fourth to Preoccupy, Big Casino and Fleetridge, the Arkansas Derby winner, in his only 1947 outing, and he is meeting horses of less fashionable caliber. Completing the Peter Pan field are James C. Ellis Flying Freddie, F. Spellmans Chance Bea, E. A. Carneys Big Pop, Mrs. J. M. Hubbards Bright Jimmy, Mrs. Elizabeth Mucklers Atomic Energy, Mrs. L. Wagners My Sister, and J. Howard Rouses Fast Pulse. Of this latter group, Chance Bea has speed; Atomic Energy looked good while defeating a fair field of three-year-olds at Keeneland, and Fast Pulse will make her first start of the year. The initial event tomorrow is to match seven two-year-olds in the five-furlong Boot to Boot Purse. Joseph A. Goodwins homebred Jacks Creek, who ran second to Calumet Farms Free America in the Swift and Sure Purse last week, is to clash with a clever band of youngsters. William Crump will saddle J. H. Rouses Mr. Kilroy and William Wickhams Withastar for the dash, and others in the field are Walker and Eber-ings Fair Arab, Brown Hotel Stables Balla-don, Mrs. Frank P. Letelliers Knights Hill and Augustus and Nahms Gallice, a speedy juvenile.
