Penter Appointed Stall Man At Arlington-Washington Martin "Duke" Penter has been appointed stall man at Arlington Park and Washington Park, officials of the two tracks announced yesterday. He succeeds William Pat" Calvert, who died last February. Penter has been a member of Roy Dick-ersons starting crew at Arlington Park for the last 15 years and has been at Washing ton Park for more than 10 years. For the last three years he has been stall man at the Fair Grounds in New Orleans. He has worked at tracks throughout the country, usually as an assistant starter. Among the starters he has worked with are Ruby White, Jack Hodgins, John Morrison. Robert Friend and Tom Brown, in addition to Dickerson. Penters birthplace is at Sycamore, 111. In recent years his home has been in New Orleans. He is married and has two children.
