Tudor Minstrel Is Being Hailed as Super Horse Easiest Winner in History of 2,000 Guineas; Derby Standout LONDON, May 13 Reuters . — Those privileged to watch John Dewars great three-year-old, Tudor Minstrel, win the Two Thousand Guineas in a canter believe that they saw the finest horse bred in Britain, and possibly the world, in the last century. Only those who were there and his jockey, Gordon Richards, know just how easily he won, and one good judge takes the view that had the colt been ridden out he could have won by certainly not less than 20 lengths. Jockeys who rode in the race behind him were amazed at his speed and power. For instance, Billy Rickaby, who used to ride Hyperion in his home gallops, puts "The Minstrel" in the same class, while former champion jockey, Joe Childs, who rode John Dewars Camero-nian to success in the Two Thousand Guineas and the Derby in 1931, declared, "I have never seen anything to touch this performance." Strictly on form he was right, for no horse has ever won this first classic by such a great distance, the previous record being Colorados five lengths in 1926. One might suggest that "The Minstrel" won so easily because he had a poor field to beat but the fact remains that although he was never off the bit he got within one-fifth of a second off the mile record at Newmarket, set by Sunstar in winning the Two Thousand Guineas in 1911. That he could have easily beaten it, no one doubts. Many think "The Minstrel" will start around 1 to 2 in the Derby and it is definitely known Gordon Richards will be in the saddle. Backers are presently not overlooking the fact that someone has been backing the Kings Derby candidate. Blue Train, who is in the same stable as Tudor Minstrel. Apart from Tudor Minstrel and Blue Train, the impeccably-bred son of Derby winner Blue Peter, out of the St. Leger winner, Sun Chariot, Darling has in his stable two unbeaten three-year-olds in Stockade, a son of the Two Thousand Guineas winner, Big Game — out of the Oaks winner, Brulette who has easily won both his races this year. He did not run last season — and the still unbeaten Combat, also by Big Game, who gave Sayajirao, the Guineas third, 10 pounds and a beating over one mile of the Derby course at Epsom. If Darling runs all four he might well take the first four places, such a strong classic hand does he possess.
