SUSAN W. B., a sharp factor from the start, but forced to take up at the final turn when caught between horses, held on willingly when clear, yet was not good £ enough for the winner. BYJA COPO went to the front when settled for the drive, then faltered during the final 2 furlong. PUSSY WILLOW failed to stay after showing early speed. SLAMARANTH was done early. PAPA REDBIRD, forwardly placed and well ridden from the start, was sent, out slightly entering the stretch and, responding to strong handling, wore down PORTERS BROOM in the last strides. PORTERS BROOM went to the front early, made the pace under occasional urging and held on well during the drive, but was unable to withstand the winner. STAR REWARD, a sharp factor from the start and saving ground, failed to rally when set down for the stretch run. PIET lost ground while racing on the outside to the upper turn, reached a good position nearing the stretch, but could not get to the leaders when set down in the drive. ALMENOW, in close quarters after three-eighths, held on well when clear. MASTER BID raced evenly without mishap. TURBINE was never a serious factor and raced wide. AIR SAILOR began fast, but could not keep up.
