MIGHTY MASTER, hard held while being outrun to the final quarter, rallied from the extreme outside when set dwon for the drive and under a strong ride, outfinished BILL H0WK. The latter, taken in hand and steadied along during the early stages raced on the outside much of the way, wore down INTREPID when put to pressure to take command between calls in the last eighth, but could not resist the top one. CUSTODY forced the pace in hand, saved ground aftre a quarter, but weakened under punishment in the last eighth. INTREPID had high speed from the start m?,-" throughout, but had nothing left when the real racing began. NAVY AWARD was never a factor! COUNT DID could not keep up. The others were far back. HORNPIPE pressed the pace in hand saved some ground early and responded readily to extreme pressure through the stretch to be best in a hard drive. FUG IT had speed, saved ground much of the way and, under strong handling in the last furlong just failed to last and came back very lame. DEGAGE, slow to settle into his best stride, circled his field when rallying on the stretch turn and made a belated bid to narrowly miss. SUNSATION was well placed from the beginning and saved ground throughout, but failed to rally when called upon. The others were never contenders. White; bred by W. C. Langley. WENT TO POST-2:27. OFF AT 2:271 EASTERN DAYLIGHT TIME. Start good from flag. Won handily; second and third driving. RISE-TO-FOLLOW had speed while jumping cleanly, lost command momentarily on the fourth hurdle, but responded well to urging to take command again and after clearing the last hedge, drew out while going on his own courage. HALF HOUR wrested command on the fourth hurdle, but gave way readily when challenged by the top one and, while racing well to the last hedge, had nothing left for the drive to the wire. FONDA, well placed from the beginning, swerved sharply to the inside after clearing the last hurdle, blocking DEIMOS, then held on fairly well in the drive, but was disqualified for interference and placed last. DEIMOS, away slowly, rallied on the seventh hurdle to move up gamely neanng the last hedge, was blocked when settled down for the drive and lost all chance. MORE SUN broke alertly, lost com- * mand while drifting, to the inside soon after the break, responded readily to strong handling when straightened away and wore down BOSS YAM in the closing strides. BOSS YAM, away with the top flight, wrested command in the early stages, raced on the outside throughout and, after drawing into a long lead nearing the last eighth, had nothing left to stave off the late challenge of the top one. EMERGENCY HOUR had no mishap in an even performance. WAR POPPY was hustled into a contending position soon after the start, but, under increased pressure through the last quarter, gave way steadily. DOOLY was never far back, but was not quite good enough. WISE QUEST made up some ground. ROSEBOWL tired after showing speed for a quarter. FULTON was never a factor. . HIGHBINDER, shuffled back in the early running, was steadied to the stretch turn, moved willingly to the leaders when roused and, under a hard drive through the stretch, outgamed HOBCAW BARONY. The latter was never far back, rallied to take command in the early stretch and, under a sustained drive, just failed to last. SPACE SHIP was well placed from the beginning, moved up boldly nearing the last eighth, but was not quite good enough. FLASH OF LIGHT found racing room on the inside through the stretch and made up some ground. THE BLUES was outrun AVONWOOD showed good speed for a half and tired. LOSER WEEPER wrested command from the inside after a quarter, drew into a long lead while being cleverly rated on the turn, was put to strong handling on entering the stretch and held VULCANS FORGE safe. The latter, slow to begin, was far back to the final quarter, found racing room between horses when set down for the drive and finished full of run. BUT WHY NOT had good early speed, dropped back while racing wide leaving the backstretch, found racing room when roused in the last quarter and made up ground fast between hfirses in the late stages. TEA-MAKER was never far back, raced a trifle wide and when called on for his best effort in the stretch, lacked a closing rally. FAULTLESS was never a factor. RIPPEY broke slow and failed to reach a contending position. THREE RINGS tired from his early efforts. BLUE BORDER quit after showing speed for three quarters. ONE HITTER, hard held while racing on the outside to the last quarter, assumed command when ready while under mild urging, quickly drew out and won with speed in reserve, then worked on out a mile and three-sixteenths in 1:59. BAR SINISTER, never far back, saved ground to the stretch, was bothered repeatedly by LOW AND HIGH rounding the stretch turn, was brought between horses when straightened away and made up some ground late. DRY FLY was used up racing LOW and HIGH into defeat. ENGEL MAN, practically left at the break and badly outrun to the final quarter, came to the extreme outside and closed a big gap. ROAMING FEET was never a threat. LOW AND HIGH was used up making a fast pace and swerved badly while tiring in the last quarter. GALLOPING GUS gave a dull performance. EIGHTH RACE 1 1-8 MILES.
