The Christiana is ably supported by the third in a series of five Montchanin Handicaps, this one at a mile and a quarter for a purse of ,500. The Christiana features a rematch of two of the outstanding juveniles on this circuit, Palatine Stables Quiz Show and William Helis Selector. The latter will race coupled with Yogi. Others in the overnight field are Alfred G. Vanderbilts First Glance, Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords* Post Card, Cedar Farms Halter, Circle M Farms Our Tops, Bobanet Stables Opal Blossom and Mystagogue, R. B. Carrolls Mucho Mas and Joseph P. Mazzas Yipiyadee. Quiz Show has distinguished himself as the most proficient two-year-old on the Maryland-New Jersey-Delaware circuit, having remained unbeaten in four appear- » .. ances. His only other start was at Hialeah during the winter and resulted in a dull debut. Reports on Quiz Shows purchase price range from 0,000 to 2,000, and he has earned a total of 0,445 to date. Johnny Gilbert, who rode Quiz Show when he won the five-furlong William Penn Stakes in :59, will return to the saddle in the Christiana. Selector has looked all over a champion in winning three of his five starts, but when he hooked up with Quiz Show, he was second on one occasion and third on the other. The Helis colt is favored by having had a race over the track, and he won at five furlongs while being eased up in :59Y5. Jimmy Stout, who won a division of the Polly Drummond for Helis with Bridal Shower, will ride. Selector. The Christiana appears a tough spot for Yogi. Quiz Show and Selector were split by Vanderbilts First Glance in the William Penn, and the son of Discovery has since been idle. Our Tops, Post Card and Halter figure to be in the thick of contention from the outset. Our Tops has not won a purse since winning his debut at Hialeah, but he shapes up as a capable colt. Post Card has won two of his six starts, his last victory being over this track in :59%. Halter was second to Post Card in that race, beaten two and a half lengths. He previously had won two races in three starts. The Bobanet team raced well here last week, but does not figure to be formidable, tomorrow. Mystagogue carried a 0,000 claiming tag in his last and won impressively in :59Ys while carrying only 107 pounds. Opal Blossom finished fourth last time out in the race won by Post Card. Mucho Mas, an invader from New England; Yipiyadee and Teddies Imp would appear to rate as named. Mucho Mas has been a double winner thus far in the season, but has shown nothing to suggest that he is capable of beating such youngsters as he will meet tomorrow. Mrs. Andy Schuttingers Ferd, regarded by many as the outstanding two-year-old to appear in New York this spring, was to have been shipped here for the Christiana but fell victim to a siege of coughing which forced his trainer to abandon plans. The third Montchanin is headed by A. E. Morris* Ted M., who won the mile and a sixteenth and the mile and a furlong renewals. Being a front runner, Ted M. figures to have a more difficult task tomorrow. He is coupled overnight with Escrow and will be opposed by Cer Vantes, Red Pompon, Desert Ruler, Fulgura, Burts Reward, Hals Pal, Lion Rampant and Apple River. Another interesting race on the program is the fourth event, which matches five fillies at the mile and a sixteenth distance. The race is designed as a prep for the Delaware Oaks, and three eligibles for that event are in the field. They are Foxcatcher Farms Gaffery, who looms a top heavy favorite; C. V. Whitneys Nasophar and A. B. Hancocks Yoncalla. Rounding out the field are Crispin Oglebays Why the Rush, and W. C. Ensors Olecranon.
