MAKE HAY assumed a clear lead on the turn, but was no. match for the winner THE MAST rallied from the outside and should improve. MARY weakened after vying for the lead. ACE SCHOLAR closed well while lugging in. LADY JACOPO raced forwardly, but lacked a rally. IDLE DEIL was sluggish early. JERICHO flattened out. CLEAR GRIT broke tardily and had no chance. FLAG CAPTAIN just saved third money over FAIR VISION. The latter was slow to settle in stride and raced well in the late stages. DARJEELING bobbled several times, finally fell at the final fence and came back decidedly lame. LOCK AND KEY "fenced well while setting the pace, turned back repeated challenges and held a comfortable advantage when she fell at the fifteenth obstacle. PHALANX was allowed to save ground on the inside of his stablemate easily, moved boldly when shaken up mildly, wore down the leaders and drew clear to win easily. MOTHER raced on the inside of ROSE BEAM while being smartly handled, moved with that one to force him wide, then retained second position while going handily. ROSE BEAM floundered out of the gate, was forced to race extremely wide throughout and tired in the drive. DR. ALMAC lacked a rally when set down.
