His Boots, making his third start of the season for Mrs. Dodge Sloanes establishment, was earning the major share of the spoils for the first time, and he did so by negotiating 15 jumps on the two-mile course- in 3:48%. The winner held a two lengths advantage over Mrs. Joseph Bryans Cloonshee, with John M. Schiffs Phiblant another six lengths away. Tommy Field, who handled His Boots, announced following the race that the large cup would be sent to Tom Roby in New York, where it will remain until next years running. Cornelius V. Whitneys Phalanx, champion three-year-old of 1947, launched his current campaign belatedly here this afternoon and gave the impression that he is headed for a successful season when he turned in an easy victory in the mile and a sixteenth Camden Purse. Three lengths behind the winner and going handily, was his stablemate, Mother, while Foxcatcher Farms Rose Beam was another length and a half behind. Phalanx was timed in 1:45% under Johnny Gilbert and the entry, second choice to Rose Beam, paid .70 straight and .20 to place. Phalanx will now be pointed for the Sussex Handicap ■vhile Mother is scheduled to start in Saturdays New Castle, for fillies and mares.
