► RICHARD N. RYAN — His South American importation, Ispahan, accounted for the Juniper Valley Purse on yesterdays Aqueduct card. ► ; . : — Miss Request, Ispahan Score In Co-Features at Aqueduct Whitaker Filly DownsQuibble By Half-Length to Register Her First Victory of Year AQUEDUCT, L. I., N. Y., June 14.— Mrs. Ben F. Whitakers Miss Request won her first race of the 1949 season when she got home a half length before Isidore Biebers Quibble in the Corvette Classified Handicap, first of the feature events at Aqueduct today. Havahome Stables Sweet Dream, the oddsTon favorite, finished a head farther back after setting the pace to the sixteenth pole, while Edward Dibes Back Talk, the only other starter, was beaten another 14 lengths. Miss Request paid .10 and was clocked in 1:13%, good time over the heavily cushioned track. A crowd of 17,602 turned out in pleasant, breezy, weather. Miss Requests victory completed a double for Atkinson, who whipped Al-Jo Stables Cacique to the wire in a furious finish in the fourth race. Richard N. Ryans Ispahan, a South American with unusually tender feet, found the Aqueduct strip to his liking and raced to atwo and a half lengths victory in the Juniper Valley Purse. Belair Studs Hyblaze was second, after being ridden with poor judgment, while Joe Rosens Lets Dance was a similar margin away in third place. Frank Frankels Flashco finished a well-beaten fourth and last, after setting the pace under strong restraint. The outsider of the small field, Ispahan, paid 0.10 and was timed in 1:48%. Basil James rode the son of Parlanchin, profiting by an opening that developed at the head of the stretch to save a world of ground. Sweet Dream Takes Lead Sweet Dream, topweight under 126 pounds, rushed to the front at the start of the Corvette, followed by Quibble and Back Talk, while Atkinson allowed Miss Request plenty of time to settle into stride. The Canadian-born rider asked Miss Request to move nearing the three-furlong pole and quickly swept past Back Talk into third place. Sweet Dream continued to lead into the stretch, with Quibble driving at her, while Miss Request moved up powerfully on the outside. Quibble fought on gamely and succeeded in holding Sweet Dream safe, but could not resist the closing rush of Miss Request, who charged steadily down the outside, catching the leaders at the 70-yard pole and gradually forcing, first her head, then her neck to the fore. Miss Request, who had been champion of the sophomore fillies last season, was making her eighth start of the year, and had two thirds to her credit in her previous efforts. Atkinson was riding her for the first time since she finished second to Conniver in the Comely Handicap at Jamaica last fall, but had been in the irons when she won the Ladies Handicap in September. He evidently fits her well.
