Kiner Drives in Five Runs; Pirates Down Giants, 12-7 PITTSBURGH, Pa., May 17 UP.— Ralph Kiner drove in five runs today with his sixth homer of the season and a double as the Pirates pounded five Giant hurlers for a 12 to 7 victory before 9,400 fans. Murry Dickson, who came on the scene in the sixth inning, received credit for the victory, his fifth against two defeats. Larry 1 Jansen had a 4-0 lead when the Pirates exploded for five runs in the third inning, topped off by Kiners three-run homer over the wall. The Giants tied it in the sixth on Don Muellers first homer of the year, an in-. side-the-park wallop, but the Bucks came right back with four more runs in the sixth, including Dicksons single, Bells hit and Kiners two-bagger. Wally Westlake homered off Roger Bowman in the eighth with one aboard. It was his ninth of the year. Plate umpire Bill Stewart had to retire in the fourth inning after being struck on the right knee by a foul tip off Eddie Stankys bat. Jocko Conlan took over behind the plate. Stewart said it was the first time during his 19 -year career as an umpire that he had to quit during a game, although he has worked with two broken fingers, a broken wrist and a broken toe. He probably will be sidelined about three days.
