All Entrants in Camden Event Equally Weighted Directoire and Energetic Likely To Receive Bulk of Support GARDEN STATE PARK, Camden, N. J., May 17. — The Northfield Purse brings together nine middle-distance performers as the best offering on the program to be presented here tomorrow. A notable fact about the event is that, under the allowance conditions, each of the contestants is similarly weighted with 109 pounds. This clearly reveals how closely they appear to be matched on paper, and the public will find difficulty in selecting a solid choice. Joe Gavegnanos Directoire, by virtue of a victory in his last appearance, will receive considerable support, as will King Ranchs Energetic, who won two sprint races before meeting with defeat in his last race. All of the participants seem suited to the one mile and a sixteenth distance, and none can be lightly dismissed. Completing the field are KayrGee Stables Lucky Harp, Mrs. S. M. Pistorios Golden Bull, Jaclyn Stables Equinox II., Alan J. Wilsons Arthur Pilate and Mrs. R. Woulfins King Chico. Directoire has been a steady campaigner now for several seasons, and his last race was excellent. The veteran horse, a son of Burgoo King and Darby Deedee, won for a claiming price of 0,000 on this occasion, coming with a rush in the stretch to be up for a close decision oyer Attention Mark. Fernando Fernandez will have his usual assignment oh Directoire and his presence assures a capable job of piloting. Energetic would be a standout over this field at a sprint distance, and it is likely that he will jforce a swift pace tomorrow. The son of Brazado sizzled off six furlongs in-1:10% to come from behind and win his first race here, but there still remains some doubt as to his courage over a longer distance. Arthur Pilate is an arrival, from Pimlico, where he has started three times this spring. His best effort was at six furlongs when he closed fast to be beaten but a head by Puppet. The Pilate geldings latest was also a sprint, and he finished a little more than four lengths behind the winning Oriole. Jaclyn Stables Equinox H. seldom is able to win a race, despite some occasional good efforts. He has been sprinting recently arid will likely show better at the longer distance: Lucky Harp is improving and he also could provide spirit to the event. King Chico is coming up to one of his better races and he is placed with more suitable company tomorrow. Golden Bull is not at his best, and improvement will be-needed to make him a danger.
