Arcot Proves Easy Victor In Royal Standard Stakes MANCHESTER, England, May 17.— Reuters — Arcot, a three-year-old colt by Nearco, out of Vestal Virgin, carrying the colors borne to victory by -Nimbus in the 1949 Epsom Derby, won the Royal Standard Stakes over 10 furlongs in such impressive fashion here today he later was made joint favorite to emulate Nimbus in this years classic at Epsom Downs. Owned by Mrs. Marion Glenister, Arcot was a 25 to 1 shot at Tuesdays Derby callover, but the bookmakers top offer after todays win was 10 to 1, which makes ■ _ « * i * him a joint favorite with Ki Ming and the American-bred Turco. Jockey Charlie Elliott, who piloted Nimbus, rode Arcot today and said on dismounting, -"He is certainly a runner. I will have the Derby mount.". Starting at 9 to 2 in the field of six which included other Derby entrants, Arcot moved to the fore with a strong run a furlong from home and won easily by three lengths from the Aga Khans 3 to 1 favorite, Kameran, with Daneshill, who cost 2,920 as a yearling, two lengths away in third place. Another Derby challenger well supported in ante-post betting today was the French-bred Rain Check.
