Seven Three-Year-Olds Seek Marblehead Purse Loridale, Pictus and Fair Game Regarded Highly in Suffolk Dash SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., May 17. — Seven of the better sophomores in this area have been named to contest the Marblehead Purse, which features tomorrows program at Suffolk-Downs. Under the conditions of the six-furlong allowance test, A. H. Warners Loridale, J. J. Starlings Fair Game and Ralph Lowes Pictus are the top weights, but the latter will take a seven-pound apprentice allowance to give the Pic£or colt actually 117 pounds to tote. The other two must shoulder 122 pounds. Mrs: J. Kelleys Phoenicia also must carry equal poundage on the scale although her actual burden tomorrow will be 117, getting the benefit of a five-pound filly allowance. The remainder of the line-up include Mrs. J. Purpuras In Taste, 117; H. G. Cohens Mary Boniface and S. Finkelsteins Whit Whiz, each slated to tote 111 pounds. Whit Whiz has been designated to carry a five-pound apprentice allowance. The race shapes up as a return match between Loridale and Pictus. The Warner colt turned in a smashing effort to win the John Alden Handicap by two and a half lengths, while Pictus failed badly in the race and wound up fourth, beaten nearly six lengths. Nothing can be taken away from the triumph of Loridale, as he accomplished his feat in 1:10and for the fastest three-quarters bf the current meeting. Tomorrow he will be obliged to spot Pictus seven pounds and the Lowe colt will be getting that amount as a switch in his favor. When they last met Loridale carried 117 while the son of Pictor— Mrs. Ames was top weight with 123 pounds. No boy has been named as yet ?tol handle the assignment on Loridale, while the chances of Pictus will be entrusted to apprentice James Davern. Fair Game was a stake winner here last season as a juvenile, taking the measure of well regarded youngsters in the Bay State Kindergarten Stakes. After winning a later allowance dash at Narragansett Park, the -Florida-bred son of Ariel Game was sparingly raced and it wasnt until midway through the recent Hialeah Park meeting that he again graced the winners circle. After two failures at Gulfstream Park before shipping north, Fair Game showed a good effort behind Loridale in the John Alden, finishing third, four lengths off the leader. There is a three-pound shift in the weights which is against Fair Game, which seems a tough task to hurdle against such a performer as Loridale. Phoenicia is a well bred filly whom Kel-ley acquired for ,500 via the claiming route at Hialeah during the past winter and since that time she has won two races for her new owner. In Taste showed signs of being a good filly during the waning days of her two-year-old season at Rockingham Park. In one race she finished second to Loridale, beaten one length while giving three pounds on the scale. In that race, the highly regarded Whirling Bat finished nearly a length back of In Taste. Trainer Joe Purpura only raced the daughter of Condiment four times during the Florida season and has been careful in preparing her for this seasons campaign. Whit Whiz and Mary Boniface, although winners at the local meeting, appear in a tough spot tomorrow. Each has been consistent in mostbf their starts but the caliber of opposition has been - very ordinary.
