I., N. Y., May 19. — Mrs. Ben F. Whitakers Hitex coasted to an easy victory in the featured Master Bid Purse at Belmont Park today, drawing away from his seven rivals near the end of the six furlongs to triumph by four lengths over C. H. Johannsen, Jr.s Heap Big Chief. It was another two lengths back to Woolford Farms True Pattern, the tiring pacemaker, while Mrs. Eugene Con-stantin, Jr.s Do Report was three and a half lengths out of the money. Mrs. M. F. Drink-houses Duke Fanelli, the favorite with the throng of 26,112, was sluggish in the early stages, swerved when asked for speed and dried to "fast." Dave Gorman rode Hitex, a sophomore gelding by Bless Me from Qbania, by Questionnaire, who paid . He stepped the six furlongs in 1:11 over a track that had dried too fast. Do Report was first out of the gate in the Master Bid, but was quickly passed by True Pattern, who opened up a daylight lead. Hitex was a close third, while Duke Fanelli moved briefly into fourth place rounding the far turn, then began to veer and fall back. Heap Big Chief was in fifth place at this stage. Hitex Moves Up to Challenge Nearing the stretch, Hitex moved up on the outside to challenge True Pattern, put. that gelding away without too much trouble, then coasted home under a hand ride. Heap Big Chief wove his way between horses in the final quarter and finished willingly, but without threatening the winner, while True Pattern floundered badly at the end, but was not menaced for third money. Hitex won two races at New Orleans Fair Grounds last winter, then finished third in the sprint division of the Experimental Handicap at Jamaica and finished second to Suggested in an overnight dash at that track last out. Clara Ostrikers Blue Idle, who was graduating on the eighth attempt, drew out at the end of the fifth race to score by two Continued on Page Thirty-Two Hitex In Four-Length Belmont Park Triumph Whitakers Sophomore Sprinter Shows Way to Heap Big Chief v Continued from Page One lengths over R. Ted Atkinson, who rode the latter, promptly claimed foul against Jimmy DelVecchio, pilot of In the Van, and the favorite was disqualified for swerving. That moved Lester Manpr Stables Star Alpha, a well-played sister to Star-Enfin, who had finished fourth after racing greenly, into third place. Steve DiMauro piloted Blue Idle, who paid 2.50 and ran the four and a half furlongs in :523/5. Main Earth Stables Allflor, who was bred of doubtful ancestry by the U. S. Remount in Germany, scored his third straight over hurdles when he sailed up on the inside to nose out Apheim Stables Scare Play. Allison Sterns Salemaker was a distant third, tiring badiy after making a strong bid at the final bend, while Sahford Stud Farms Oneida was a staggering fourth. A. Edward Masters Le Buis Fleuri, who was brought back to racing by Sam Bush after suffering a nearly fatal attack of lockjaw, turned in a promising effort here. Allflor paid 1.90 and Ramon Harris urged him over the soft track in 3:18%. Charlotte Weiperts Fourleafclover and Woodvale Farms Sister Louise combined a 5.50 Daily Double. Eric Guerin piloted Fourleafclover in the opening dash on the straight course to score by almost a length over Bermill Farms Cockahoop, while Jules Krams Allah-Vhy was a weary third at the end of four and a half furlongs in :52%.
