Oyie Scurlock Has Chipped Bone in His Left Ankle BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., May 19. — It developed over the week-end that Ovie Scurlock rode Battlefield in Saturdays Metropolitan Handicap with a chipped bone in his left ankle. The veteran Kentuckian, who was injured when thrown in the gate by George D. Wideners Scent before the fourth race, is wearing a cast and will be on the sidelines for about two weeks. In explaining his rather early move with Battlefield in the "Met," Scurlock said, "You know I had a lot of trouble with him going to the post and I decided that the only thing to do was to let him have his own way as much as possible. He rated kindly down the backstretch, but when I got him out where he wouldnt get hit with any dirt, he just took off. "I felt that it was better to let him go than try to throw him down. Then when I pressed with Blue Mans performance, or, again and was doing his best. "What might have made a difference," Scurlock added, "was that he bore in a little in the stretch and I let him go, instead of fighting him to keep a straight course. If he had stayed straight and Mameluke had to go around him, we might have made it " j n I* j :J " .. ; x inwo I 3 -xhiX. .?.c q* r ot i
