Hasty House Farm Nominates Quartet For Fleming Memorial This Week-End Ohio Stable Has Roman i Bath, Seaward, Inseparable And Ruhe in Lincoln Event HAWTHORNE, Cicero, 111., May 19 — Mr. and Mrs. Allie E. Reuben, of Toledo, Ohio, who race under the name of Hasty House Farm and whose Wine List and Roman Bath finished first and second, respectively, in the Edward J. Fleming Memorial Stakes last year, hold another strong hand for the 1952 renewal of that Lincoln Fields fixture at Hawthorne next Saturday. Hasty House has four representatives among the 24 horses nominated for the 0,000 Fleming, which is to be run at the distance of six and one-half furlongs Roman Bath again is a candidate for the Fleming, along with Seaward, Inseparable and Ruhe, from the Hasty House establishment, trained by Harry Trotsek. The Reubens have enjoyed considerable success in recent years with their purchases of "made" horses. They purchased Roman Bath from John Marsch, Seaward from Mrs. Dodge Sloanes Brookmeade Stable, Inseparable from Elmendorf Farm, and only recently acquired the former Arkansas Derby and Blue Grass winner, Ruhe, from Mrs. Emil Denemark. All excepf Ruhe have won stakes for the Toledo owner, but the former Denemark racer has been in the Hasty House barn only a short time and may make liis first appearance under silks for his new owners in the Fleming. In his first start of the new year, Roman Bath finished third to Circus Clown and Air Mail at Churchill Downs on April 30. He was unplaced behind Mikel Farms Illinois-bred False in the Crete Handicap on Lincoln Fields opening-day card. Wine List, Fleming winner of 1951, who has been retired to the stud, has been syndicated and stands at Grant Dorlands Roseland Farm, Lexington, Ky. Wine List was purchased by the Reubens from Greentree Farm. So far this year, Seaward is the "big horse" of the Hasty House stable. He won the Ben Ali Handicap at Keeneland at the direct expense of his new stablemate, Ruhe, and also was winner of the Clark Handicap at Churchill Downs. Last March ► ■ 2 he made a foray over to Cuba, where he won a handicap by four lengths. Last year," Seaward won the important Hawthorne Gold Cup. Among the rivals, of the Hasty House quartet in the Fleming next Saturday will be the 1949 and 1950 winners of the Hawthorne Gold Cup. These are, respectively, Walmac Farms Volcanic and M. A. and Roy Saffirs Dr. Ole Nelson, both trained by Howard Wells. That accomplished horseman also nominated J. S. Bradleys Sun David and L. W. Roush and H. B. Reids Bloody Step. The first three horses to finish in the Crete Handicap on opening day have been nominated for the Fleming. The winner, False, previously had won the LeCompte and Letellier Handicaps at New Orleans. In-the Crete he beat R. R. Thomas Joe Graves a length, with B. W. Landys Spur On two lengths farther back in third place. The latter, however, avenged his defeat last Saturday when he won the Steger Handicap, beating another Fleming candidate, W. H. Bishops Tattenham, while False finished third.
