I,- -— : — : — 1 PETER A. MARKEY Peter A. Markey, Owner And Breeder, Dies at 62 Detroit Sportsman Suffers Heart Attack; Hold Funeral Tomorrow DETROIT, Mich., May 19.— Peter . A. Markey, prominent Detroit business man and one of the citys best known racing enthusiasts, » died at his home here late Sunday after suffering a heart attack. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 9:00 at Gesu Church, Washington and McNichols Sts., with burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Markey, who was 62, was an ardent racing fan and was co-owner with Charles B. Bohn of the Bomar Stable. The latter establishment was split up in 1949. At present, Markey .had 15 horses in training in New York under the direction of Frank J. Kearns. In addition to his racing stable, Markey also had eight broodmares in Kentucky where also stands his stallion, Piet, the best horse to carry his colors. Markey and Bohn helped organize the Detroit Racing Association in 1932 along with the late Clarence E. "King" Lehr. The association conducted its racing at the Fair Grounds track. Both Markey and Bohn resigned as officers three years, later. Markey was active in the formation of the Michigan Racing Association in 1949 and his son, William T. Markey, is secretary of the MRA. His wife, Loretta, also survives.
