Gazelle Lures Ten Sophomore Fillies Parading Lady, Victorious In Acorn, Goes at Aqueduct Engages Jubling, Aesthete, j Dinewisely and Petitpoint Over Mile and Sixteenth AQUEDUCT, L. I., N. Y., June 13.— The fifty -seventh running of the 5,000 Gazelle Stakes for three-year-old fillies is the feature attraction at Aqueduct tomorrow. Ten filies have been named for the event and, if it doesnt include any stars, that is because the sophomore generation includes only two worthy of such billing, Real Delight and Whirla Lea, both of whom are deploying their talents in the Midwest. Joe W. Browns Parading Lady, winner of the Acorn Stakes, is topweight in this mile and a sixteenth with 121 pounds, conceding eight to each of her rivals. C. H. Wacker HI.s Jubling. who will be ridden by Ted Atkinson, looms the choice on the strength of her fine race against older mares in the Top Flight Handicap. Last years Gazelle was won by Walter M. Jeffords Kiss Me Kate, who went on to be voted the champion of her age and sex, while the 1950 edition was won by Alfred G. Vanderbilts Next Move, a somewhat more authentic title holder despite her occasional displays of feminine disdain for logic. Since J. B. Haggins Firenze won the inaugural of the Gazelle at Gravesend back in 1887, the filly fixture has been won by such memorable misses as Beldame, Regret, Bateau and Vagrancy, not to mention such fine producers as Maskette. Flambino and Ace Card, dam of this years Belmont Stakes winner, One Count. Chief Rivals of Pair The chief oponents to Parading Lady , and Jubling in tomorrows renewal of the Gazelle appear to be Cain Hoy Stables ! Hushaby Baby, Hal Price Headleys Aesthete, F. Eugene Dixon, Jr.s, Dinewisely, Mrs. R. A. Firestones Petitpoint and Ethel [ D. Jacobs Hadassah. Aesthete finished fourth in the Coaching Club American Oaks, won by Real Delight, though she was a maiden at the time, and i came back to score easily over a large band of non-winners at Belmont Park. A handsome miss, Aesthete had raced "promisingly" • in top company on several occasions before finally graduating. Eric Guerin is slated to ride. Hushaby Baby finished a i couple of lengths behind Aesthete in the J Oaks and won her previous start at Belmont. • She will be ridden by Ray York. Dinewisely turned in a bad race in the l CCA Oaks, appearing to sulk when taken t under restraint in the early stages, but won t her previous start and was second to Real I Delight in the Black-Eyed Susan at Pim-lico, • beating Parading Lady. Ovie Scurlock : will ride. Petitpoint has won her last two starts, , the most recent being an easy score at t seven furlongs over the stakes-winning f Anchors Aweigh. Don MacAndrew is to pilot the Princequillo filly. Hadassah had I all she could do to beat Mohduma at seven l furlongs in her last. She will be ridden by r Hedley Woodhouse. • The Gazelle field is completed by Bon-crist ■ Farms Jandy, E. M. OBriens Iso-grade • and Christiana Stables Enchanted Eve. The latter has been racing well enough i at Delaware Park and in Maryland to rate 1 consideration. To return to Jubling, this daughter of t Snark — Hasty Heels set most of the pace in the Top Flight after having been on the ; sidelines for several weeks, the victim of I the cough. Before that, she was narrowly r beaten by Landmark in the Prioress Stakes ; at Jamaica on April 9, going wide on the stretch turn and losing considerable ground, but finishing before Parading Lady. She i was equipped with a "figure eight" in the l Top Flight and hugged the rail all the way, , only tiring in the final furlong as though a mite short. Parading Lady, who will be ridden by r Jimmy Hardinbrook, has the advantage of f training over the Aqueduct track, which may help her to negotiate the turns here. However, it is doubtful if she is an eight-pound . better filly than Jubling, Aesthete, Petitpoint or, if she races kindly, Dinewisely. The first Saturday program of the meeting . has an intriguing supporting feature, , also for distaff runners, in the Mignonette ; ; Purse at six furlongs. This dash will mark 5 j the eastern debut of P. L. Grissoms speedy r Dixie Flyer, who is reported ready to duplicate her excellent mid-western form of f last year. She will be opposed by such familiar speedsters as Dark Favorite, Beseech, Who Dini, Sunshine Nell and Winship.
