BOLD KING, smartly ridden, steadily improved position to the stretch, saved ground during the drive and, closing strongly under punishment, wore down TURBAN in the last strides. TURBAN, forwardly placed from the start, went to the front after disposing of SMARTY JACOPO nearing the stretch, held on gamely under urging during the drive, but could not withstand the top one. SMARTY JACOPO was hustled into an early lead, made the pace for five-eighths mile, but faltered when challenged by TURBAN. PLATFORM lacked early speed, but closed resolutely under urging. BROWN BRUTUS tired after racing prominently to the stretch. STORM RIDDEN lacked early speed and was never a serious threat. TRAMORE BAY tired after displaying early speed. CARAMBA quit.
