HanoverGets Second Pre-Derby Test Tonight Joins Select Field of Five in Maywood Park Mile Open Pace MAYWOOD PARK, Maywood, 111., June 3. — Trainer-driver Edgar Leonard will send the pacer, H. D. Hanover, into his second pre-derby test tomorrow night at Maywood Park. H. D. Hanover will join a select field of five in the eighth race, a ,250 open pace at one mile, Opposing him will be Atomic Might, Gallant Song, Tempered Volo and Scottish Boy. For Atomic Might, Gallant Song and H. D. Hanover the race will provide a final warm-up for the 0,000 added Chicago Pacing Derby next Friday. Owned by H. B. Warren of East Moline. 111., H. D. Hanover was trained under wraps this spring. In his first start the old son of world record-holder Billy Direct was timed in 2:04. But that performance was good enough only for second place as Doctor Cooper equaled the Maywood mile mark in 2:03%. Off his initial effort, H. D. Hanover has been established as an odds-on favorite tomorrow. His chief competition is expected from Tempered Volo, owned by H. D. McLean of Quincy, 111., who won two out of three before finishing third in Doctor Coopers record mile, and Atomic Might entered by Otis Anderson of Lafayette, Ind Atomic Might gained stature as a Derby threat when he captured four of his first five appearances, but the power-gaited pacer has been unplaced in his last two starts. Scottish Boys most recent effort was a victory in 2:04%, second fastest mile of the meeting. The 13 -year-old Scotland gelding is owned by Carl Preihs of Pana, 111. Gallant Song, entered by C. D. Shafer of Lima, Ohio, whipped much of this same field two weeks ago while circling the May-wood oval in 2: %. Paul Doughertys Johnny Brown and the Vincent Spencer estates Gene Long, who shared second money in last weeks 2 000 Maywood Troting Derby, head a field of seven in the seventh race, a ,250 open trot. Theyll be opposed by Buckie B., Sidney Guy, Full Force, Little Steve and Lucky Lee Prince. The nine race program climaxes the ninth week of the Maywood meeting, which closes June 21.
