Allot Arizona Dates j For 1952-53 Season Maricopa Sessions Closer to Give Downs Better Days PHOENIX, Ariz., June 13.— The Arizona Racing Commission, meeting here recently, allotted dates to the states tracks for the 1952-1953 season, which will be of shorter duration than last season as the Maricopa Turf Clubs meeting at Sportsmans Park has been moved closer to its session at the Fair Grounds in order to permit Arizona , Downs to get under way earlier and have the benefit of more of the winter tourist trade. The State Fair will have dates of Nov. 7, 8 and 9, with contingent dates of Nov. 14, 15 and 16 if the track can be put in shape after automobile racing there. The Maricopa Turf Clubs session at the , Fair Grounds will be held from Nov. 21 to _ Jan. 4, a total of 23 days. Racing will be conducted Fridayg, Saturdays and Sundays, g Lincolns Birthday and the Monday fol- t lowing Washingtons Birthday. c Arizona Downs is slated to run from Feb. B it 27 through April 19. The Friday-Saturday- h Sunday schedule again is in effect. The cozy oval near Scottsdale may request n three extra days, April 24, 25 and 26, : I should the crowds and handle hold up. The ■ commission would have to approve that. The Rillito race track in Tucson was si g t c B it h n I ■ si granted 30 days plus one day for charity running, from Dec. 7 to April 26. This 3 course normally runs only on Sunday but ] is probable some Saturday sport will be held along about the middle of the session. Frank Brophy will be replaced as chairman of the states commission on July 1 by 1 Dennis D. Hunt of Tucson, who currently 1 serves as vice chairman. Frank Hobart of Yuma will take over Hunts vice chairmanship.
