Jampol Meets Seven in Kent Stakes Gross of 1,850 For Delaware Race High Scud, Star of Persia Returned Victors in Latest Outings at Stanton Course By PALMER HEAGERTY Staff Correspondent DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., June 13. — Max Kahlbaums Jampol tangles with seven other three-year-olds tomorrow afternoon in the fifteenth running of the 5,000 added Kent Stakes, first of two important sophomore races offered during the 33 -day Delaware Park summer session. Should the overnight field remain intact, the gross purse will be 1,850. with the winning owner taking down 2,700. The colts named to oppose Jampol are: Mrs. Esther duPont Weirs Star of Persia, the King Ranch coupling of High Scud and Armagh, Max H. Glucks Alls Fair. Mrs. Janet Hoaglins Lot-A-Brass, Herb C. Boorses G. R. Petersen, and C. F. Hei-nickes Lets Live. While this years field shapes up as a well -matched one, the members hardly possess the class of such previous Kent winners as Natchez. Wine List. Your Host and Hall of Fame. Jampol, a gelded son of Thumbs Up, has been a fairly busy fellow this season, starting 13 times and garnering in excess of 0,000 through his efforts. He was second in a division of the Flamingo during the winter and finished in the same spot in Laurels Chesapeake Stakes. It was during the Pimlico meeting that he attained top form, winning the Preakness Prep, then turning in a corking effort to be second behind Blue Man in the Preakness. Beaten Favorite in Jersey Stakes Following the second leg of the "Triple Crown," Jampol was the beaten favorite in the Jersey Stakes, which was contested over an "off" track. In local competition, he was a fast closing third behind Jet Master and Penocc, the winner being timed in 1:10% for six furlongs. He was beaten but two noses under Eugene Rodriguez and that clever Cuban will again have the mount in the Kent. High Scud is the principal member of Robert J. Klebergs tandem, with Armagh apparently a bit overmatched. High Scud was a bit late coming to hand, but was good enough at Garden State to race King Jolie to a nose decision, following which he was unplaced behind the same colt in the Jersey Stakes. High Scuds local victory was a corker, the Bernborough colt being timed in l:441/s while bouncing home 15 lengths in the van. Iran "Babe" Hanford receives the saddle assignment. Another impressive winner over the local oval is Star of Persia, a Tehran colt who breezed to a nine-length score while being time in l:441/5 for a mile and a sixteenth. His victory was as fast as High Scuds and equally as impressive. He will be ridden in the Kent by Nick Shuk and will be saddled by Jim Ryan, who has sent forth three stakes winners this week in New York. Alls Fair, a son of Isolater, is without a victory in five starts in the East, but he managed to rack up a trio of wins in California during the winter. In his most recent appearance under silks he was about nine lengths behind Armageddon and One Count in the Withers. Conn McCreary will be down from New York to handle him. Lot-A-Brass, G. R. Petersen and Lets Live raced together recently at Garden State, finishing second, fourth and seventh, respectively, behind Sweet Vermouth at six furlongs. Lot-A-Brass boasts a trio of victories this season, while the other two colts have each earned brackets on two occasions.
