Aquino II., With Richards Up, Wins Ascot Gold Cup ASCOT, Berkshire, Eng., June 19. — The Maharanee Seeta Devi Gaekwar of Barodas Aquino II., bred in France but trained in England, won the Gold Cup, Royal Ascots richest prise, from an international field. Aquino II., ridden by Gordon Richards, won the 20-furlong race after a great struggle throughout the last furlong and one-half with Lord Milfords Eastern Emperor and the French challenger Talma II., winner last year for Marcel Bous-sac of the English St. Leger. The winner, a 4 to 1 chance, had three parts of a length to spare at the final marker, with the favored Talma II. who was held at 13 to 8, two lengths away in the field of six runners. The Canadian owner, Max Bell, nearly scored a double today. His four-year-old colt Royal Serenade, who is soon to be shipped to the United States to race at Santa Anita, won the first race, the Cork and Dorrery Stakes, and his Nasrullah colt, Indian Hemp, was just beaten a nose for first place in the King Edward VII. Stakes for three-year-olds. Owner William S. Woodward had no luck with his two runners, the American-bred Vagabond VII. and the two-year-old filly, Smoke Signal.
