Eleven Allowance Grade Sprinters Match Speed O Me and Darby DAmour Each Is After Four in Row at River Downs By R. E. HURLEY Staff Correspondent RIVER DOWNS, California, Ohio, June 19. — An interesting allowance race at six lurlongs for three-year-olds and upward heads the regular eight-race program for Friday at this snug little track across the river from the foothills of Kentucky. Entitled the Thorobred Company Purse, it brings out 11 sprinters, including two coup lings to vie for the major portion of the ,100 purse. Chief attraction of the race is the fact that two of the contestants are seeking to extend win streaks to four straight while a third is seeking the third in a row. These are W. M. Faulkners O Me and Hedges and Singers Darby DAmour of the four-in-a-row class, and H. Frazers Beautiful Sue, seeking her third consecutive tally. They will be opposed by M. P. Lyons Ethel V., R. J. Wintergersts Fairpic, L. W. Johnsons Little Buck, Mrs. J. F. Dalys Espionne, J. Love, Jr.s, pair of Ivy Boy and Aristocrat and E. C. Buntings entry of Ladariel and Candidate round out the field. The last mentioned is scheduled to start today and is considered a doubtful starter. Though O Me, Darby DAmour and Beautiful Sue have impressive winning skeins at this River Downs track neither is taken as the strongest contender, for the L. W. "Cotton" Johnson entrant, Little Buck, has been racing with much better horses than are present in the Thorobred Purse. This fellow will have the services of Raymond Petrin, who recently returned to the saddle after a spill and Ray suits the Johnson entrant very well. O Me will be seeking her seventh victory of the 1952 season but has the disadvantage of coming off route races to hamper her chances tomorrow. Beautiful Sue presents the same problem as this seven-year-old mare is also coming off two route scores. Both these matrons will be charging at the finish but whether their rush will be in time remains for the race to decide. Darby DAmour, three-time winner at the six-furlong distance, this meeting, will be seeking his fourth in new silks tomorrow. The game son of Isaiah — Puppy Love was claimed in his last victorious effort and perhaps he will return his investment price quickly and continue on with winning ways. The others have little to recommend with the exception of Candidate who may be a late scratch as noted above.
