Governor Has Bill to Up Purses at Orleans Track Calls for 13 Pet. of First 0,000 In Daily Pools Be Used for Prizes BATON ROUGE, La., June 19.— A bill providing some 0,000 a year to up purses at the Fair Grounds race track at New Orleans was in the hands of Gov. Robert F. Kennon today . The Louisiana Senate gave final approval to the measure, which passed the House last night. The bill has gone to the governor for his signature. The bill provides that 13 per cent of the first 0,000 in the track pool each day be segregated in escrow for additional purses and prizes at the track. The Fair Grounds Corporation will put up the first ,000,000 in purses during racing season, while all purses above that amount will be paid from the fund. The measure also allocated 0,000 to funds now dedicated to Louisiana State University for livestock improvement, stock and 4-H club shows. EDITORS NOTE: Louisianas present tax set-up calls for a total take-out of 13 per cent, the state receiving 2 per cent of the first 00,000 wagered; 5 per cent of the next 0,000; 6 per cent of the next 0,000, and 7 per cent of all sums over 00,000.
