♦ List Ten Likely Yankee Starters Isasmoothie, Powhatan, Fly Wheel, Park Dandy Ready to Compete in Stake at Suffolk By AVERY BROWN Staff Correspondent SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., June 15. — The eighteenth running of the 5,000 added Yankee Handicap, which will be run here on Wednesday, now shapes up as "an interesting contest for sophomores listed in the category as "next best to Native Dancer, Jamie K. and Royal Bay Gem." The nine-furlong Massachusetts classic will in all probability have a minimum of 10 10 starters headed by Brookfield Stables Isasmoothie, who will be the starting high-weight under liis 122-pound impost. The stakes winning Rosemont — Blue Line colt has been on the grounds since last Thursday and was joined over the week end by C. V. Whitneys Fly Wheel, Green-tree Stables Powhatan, King Ranchs Ka-mehameha and David Weissbergers Assiduous. Another invader, who has already performed locally and who is being pointed for the Yankee, is Boncrist Stables Better Goods. The other four considered certain starters are W. J. Beatties Park Dandy, Mrs. J. H. Woodcocks Epic King, J. M. Grieves Miss Joanne and C. H. Everitts Supremes Bub. Other Possibilities Also eligible for Wednesdays race and considered possibilities for the rich prize are C. T. Chenerys Montenegrin, W. L. Curies Little Lucky, Rokeby Stables Magic Lamp and Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilts Social Outcast. Montenegrin and Little Lucky are considered New EnglandN "regulars," who had been pointing for the race, but their connections have not committed themselves as yet. The assumption that Magic Lamp may be sent here stems from the declaration of the Alibhai — Milcave colt from Saturdays Kent Stakes at Delaware Park. The chances of Social Outcast being sent here for the Yankee appeared more remote than that of the others but as one local official pub-it, "The Vanderbilt colt has not been officially declared at this writing." In addition to Isasmoothie being a winner of a stake the Pimlico Futurity last fall, Powhatan, Fly Wheel, Miss Joanne, Epic King and Park Dandy have been returned handicap winners. The Greentree colt, who is to carry 112 in the Yankee, arrived here fresh from an easy score in an overnight handicap at Belmont Park last week. Park Dandy won a trio of handicaps at Lincoln Downs this past fall, Fly Wheel defeated Isasmoothie in an overnight handicap at Belmont Park on May 21, and Miss Joanne and Epic King accounted for the Constitution and Commonwealth Handicaps respectively over the local oval.
