Apprentice James Mayer Is Taken Off Cranwood Mounts CRANWOOD PARK.Warrensville Heights, Qhio, _June 15. — Apprentice James Mayer was taken off his mounts this afternoon because he did not have the proper papers in the stewards office. The youth hails from Louisiana and has been leased by Frank Douherty to J. R. Carlock for the Cranwood Park meeting. While riding for Dougherty earlier this spring in New York the lad had seven mounts and was narrowly beaten one afternoon at Belmont Park. He will be seeking his initial victory when he does finally get straightened away with the stewards here at Cranwood. Mayer is only 17 years of age but has been around horses practically all his life. At nine years of age he was riding quarter horses in Louisiana. At one time he rode Stella Moore, who was matched in a special race with Fred Hoopers Olympia at Tropical Park several years ago. Olympia defeated Stella Moore, but only through the efforts of his rider, Willie Garner, who rode a superlative race.
