Mcllvains Only Other Starter In Race Was Billings in 1948 1948ROBERT ROBERT W McILVAIN has named horses for six previous Derbys but only one Billings started in 1948 and he was fourth Billings had the misfortune to be a good threeyearold in Citations year Mcllvain is a retired executive of the Pure Oil Company Born in Michigan the son of an Army officer Mcllvain moved to the Dakotas when eight and as he grew older prospected for oil and gold He first took a public interest in horses some 30 years ago when he owned a stable of standardbreds which included Goldie Todd a champion on the Grand Circuit He established Wai mac Farm the name being made up from parts of his middle and surnames almost 20 years ago His first Derby nominees were Bushwhacker and New Englander in 1941 1941Among Among his best known horses have been Volcanic and Wall Flower Each winter Mcllvain usually spends a part of the sea ¬ son at least at Phoenix Ariz Hence the name for this years Derby prospect Has seyampa a locale near Phoenix
