Nineteen in Belmonts Swift Stakes Offer First Event Over Grass Course CourseQuick Quick Lunch Privacy Entry Get Call Over Double Speed Revolt and Giant Cracker CrackerBy By BOB HORWOOD HORWOODStaff Staff Correspondent CorrespondentBELMONT BELMONT PARK Elmont L I N Y April 30 The fiftythird running of the 0000 Swift Stakes for threeyearolds at seven furlongs and the inaugural of Belmont Parks experimental grass course are the feature events here Saturday SaturdayNineteen Nineteen sophomores have been named for the Swift in which all carry 126 pounds while a field of 10 has been named for the 7500 Alpha Purse on the grass course which is actually the same as the hurdle course with the hedges removed removedThe The Jim Fitzsimmonstrained entry of Wheatley Stables Quick Lunch and Ogden Phipps Privacy may be favored in what appears a wideopen edition of the Swift Privacy finished fifth after encountering some trouble in the Wood Memorial won by Correlation while Quick Lunch tired badly after setting the pace in the Gotham Stakes won by Fisherman last out Quick Lunch can again be expected to set a fast pace though he will probably be challenged for the early lead by Cain Hoy Stables Giant Cracker Mrs John D Hertz Double Speed Brae Burn Farms War Piper John Barry Ryans Buttevant and Mrs Ben F Whitakers Chrysolite ChrysolitePrivacy Privacy has less early speed than his running mate but finished fairly well in the Wood quite well in the Gotham and still better in his preceding sprint in which he beat Black Metal while in his first effort at Jamaica the colt placed between Revolt and Errard King KingRevolt Revolt who carries Hal Price Headleys silks will be back in the Swift but has since finished behind Quick Lunch in the Experimental won by Errard King from Fisherman Giant Cracker was also un ¬ placed in the Experimental but won the Hibiscus at Hialeah and had speed as far as he went in his other Florida races racesUnbeaten Unbeaten as Juvenile JuvenileDouble Double Speed was unbeaten at two but has been unable to win this year and one colt who defeated him decisively W Hag gin Perrys Remand is in the Swift It has been reported that a change in shoe ing is expected to work wonders with the Count Speed colt coltIt It is quite possible that the ultimate fav ¬ orite in the Swift will be a bunch of horses grouped in the mutuel field If there are no scratches seven will be coupled in the field but just which ones will be selected is not known at this time In addition to those mentioned there may be some sup ¬ port for Mrs J R H Thourons War of Roses who breaks from the inside stall and has been training brilliantly while Edward M OBriens Gaidar may run over some of the speed horses in the stretch The over ¬ size band is completed by First Watch Permian Catspaw Affrighted Model BUsh er TumbleHome Gigantic and War Do ¬ ings Gigantic who won the Louisiana Derby and finished strongly to be fourth in the thej Florida Derby has been sprinting against againstthe the best of the older speedsters in his Long Island ventures and may be the dark darkhorse horse here Assuming that they are not in the field Revolt and Gaidar will prob ably be almost equally favored with the Fitzsimmons entry Brookmeade Stables Picador who won wonI the 50000 Hialeah Turf Handicap at the direct expense of Royal Vale last winter gets in the grass event with 112 pounds and apprentice Roger Conlon who fits him as well as anyone but Hedley Woodhouse His chief rival may be Sanf ord Stud Farms FarmsMackville Mackville who will be ridden by Jim Nich ¬ ols at 116 pounds Though beaten by Picador in the Hialeah stake Mackville is an excellent turf specialist and has been training brilliantly
